“The US reaffirmed its strong support towards Ukraine by the adoption of the “Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022”. The Ukrainian people are fighting against Kremlin’s aggressive actions. They protect not only their territory, and democracy but also key values of the modern international system. Defenders of rules-based international order stand with Ukraine and the US has a leading role in the process of maintaining international security,” - said Dr. Khatuna Burkadze, Director of American and Euro-Atlantic Studies at Geocase.
“Lend-Lease Act” was used during World War II. In 1941 President Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease bill to give aid to the allies. The Lend-Lease program made a valuable contribution to the victory during that time. Unfortunately, in the 21st century, the world faces a similar threat. To overcome this threat, 81 years later, President Biden signed the “Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022”. The Act aims at streamlining the process of getting military aid to Ukraine. Lend-Lease Act is a significant instrument for defending Ukraine and winning in Russia’s brutal war,” – underlined Dr. Khatuna Burkadze.
“In the extremely changing security environment, Georgia needs to enhance strategic ties with the United States and strengthen its defense, and security capabilities,” – added Dr. Khatuna Burkadze.
